The Handsome Women

Pleased to meet you.

 The Handsome Women are a quartet from the tourist sin swamp of the Gold Coast.

There are mountains to the west, ocean to the east, and an incessant horde of barbaric sun slaves pouring in at either end.

We fight the only way we know how: with a fistful of chords, some enchanted cussing and a healthy wad of gumption.  We have sprung up in sandy soil but we are anchored by a backline that pulses from the rhythmic stronghold of Holly Tompson (bass) and Matt Slaven (the Flame… drums).  Rattling all over it, like the shifting sands of their habitat, Simon Harrison (guitar)’s riffery will eventually erode every false idol and tacky mirage that beckons the weak and impertinent pilgrim to this golden strip of sprawling faux Corinthian architecture. 

Tony Graham Taurus yodels the lament of the local yokel.  Such is his prowess that he can say that sentence fast three times.  And though you may not hear his voice reverberating, low and mournful, through the transient hive of holiday makers, you will recognise the sound on this recording nonetheless.  It will sing you a short story about a place you will go and someone you will know.  It prophesies the opening of a new shopping complex in your own town, the name of which shall be The Hyperbole.

High rises shall be brought low.  The mountains shall roll like woken sunbathers and verily, they shall lazily cast themselves into the sea.  All suburbs shalt be beautified and the tallest tower will only be famous as such for ten minutes.  Play loud.
